Top Design - first take

After watching the series premiere of Top Design, I have a couple of comments:
It's no Project Runway, but I still like it :)

And the city is...

What city is the largest of any of the US' capital cities? It's also the 6th largest city in the country.

Bejota - it's not fun if you just google the answer straight away - you're supposed to guess...

New Addition vs. New Edition

I rolled my eyes and sighed with judgement when I read some random's comment on MySpace. The random had just had a baby, and one of their friends commented:

"Congratulations on your new edition!"

Unless she was making a play on words related to Bobby Brown's group, which I doubted after looking at her page, she's just plain old dumb. Addition. Addition. Addition.

I still remember going over they're/their/there and sit/set and addition/edition and all the others in school - and they all seemed easy. Apparently not.

New House Shit Sunday

I decided this will be my new TV stand - I'm not sure it'll be here before my party but I'm hoping... It's cute and is almost the perfect size.

Tickets

Last night I went to the Justin Timberlake concert with Julie, her mom, and Alicia for her mom's birthday. It was super fun - unfortunately there was no "dick in a box" and no shirts off, but it was still a great show. And, as a bonus, Pink opened which was real fun.

Yesterday, I also bought tickets for Rod Stewart for my mom and Julie and her mom to go to in April. I hope Rod doesn't take off his shirt at the concert, but think this picture is v. funny.

Finally, I bought tickets for a Twins-Red Sox game in May. Not sure who is going with me, but I've got the tickets locked down.Altogether, 3 ticketed events I'm stoked about, but an interesting mix nonetheless.

Overrated

On Amazon's homepage, this headline is featured:
It completely emcompasses why Valentine's Day s-u-c-k-s, as outlined below:
  1. "Make Up for the Rest of the Year" - why not just be nice / thoughtful / giving as a general rule throughout the year?
  2. "Prada, Dolce, Gucci" - only people that shouldn't buy these brands would consider buying them on Amazon.com.

What?

I don't know why Mike D has this picture posted on his MySpace, but I thought you'd like to know.

It's certainly not the NYT

My hometown paper has gone digital - instead of receiving it in the mail, I receive an email weekly with a link to the PDF version of the paper. It is very technology forward and I love it.

In this week's paper, I found the following article:

I can find the 5 Ws essential to journalism except the "Where?" Where will said pancake feed take place? Since it's Jackson, perhaps it's just assumed everyone knows where it is - but if you're going to both to put it in the paper include all the details - gosh.

Note to self

request vital organs for transplant NOT to be transported by NWA. They might fail to get them where they need to go.

PS All the TV shows show helicopters delivering little coolers o' organs. Does that ever happen?

Book me

To do: Read Amazon's 50 Top Books of 2006

Although I thought there were a LOT of cookbooks in the mix

I was surprised by my results? 50/50?

You Are: 50% Dog, 50% Cat

You are a nice blend of cat and dog.
You're playful but not too needy. And you're friendly but careful.
And while you have your moody moments, you're too happy to stay upset for long.

I feel connected?

I got today's email newsletter from The Advocate and it included:

I was excited to see that #1 is The Little Dog Laughed which Kerry's husband is working with (I don't know his title). I felt in the loop of the NYC theatre scene for a little minute, which was fun.

To watch: Beauty and the Geek

My favorite couple: Mario and Nadia

If you haven't seen Beauty and the Geek, you have to start watching it. I probably watched 80% of last year's season, and right now and watching episode #2 of this season.

I don't know what's more fun - seeing the ditzy girls nd wondering how dumb they could possible be, or trying to understand how very, very, nerdy the boys can be. The best part is that everyone has a label -- girls like

"Former Hooters Girl"
"Sorority Girl", and
"Playboy Model".

Guys have nicknames like
"Perfect SAT Score"
"Owns 25,000 Comics", and
"Has Only Kissed One Girl".

Tune in - Wed at 7pm on the CW.

Shame on you

I am disappointed that TV producers will film a show set in NYC but then have characters in the show drinking from an In and Out Burger cup (below) - a chain that ONLY has locations on the West Coast. Get your facts straight, guys.

PS Once you start watching for this, you'll see it all the time...

Are you in?

You've probably heard about this - you send in your biggest secret and then it's anonymously published. There's a blog and it appears the 2nd book is published and they're having a book signing / storyhour later this month.

Want to go? I'm leaning toward Th Jan 18, 7:30pm Edina B&N -- the other option is Fri Jan 19 at Birchbark Books in Uptown but I think it might be during the day...

Moochy

I wish people would use me more often. Apparently I don't any good skills (numchuck, etc.) because no one seems to ever ask me to do favors.

Therefore, let this be my official request to everyone to PLEASE ask me for help. I'm sure if you think about it, you can think of something I can help you with.

Note: My ulterior motive for this is so that when I ask you for help, I don't feel quite as moochy.

Time flies when you're blogging?

Maybe a fellow blogger can weigh in on this: I was looking at my blog postings from March 2006 and LITERALLY couldn't believe it's been nearly a year since I wrote this stuff. I would've sworn up and down I *just* blogged about some of those topics a month or two ago. Not 10 months ago. Another sign I'm not getting any smarter in my old(er) age.

Dumb blonde

I feel borderline retarded today at work when I had NO IDEA where St. Petersburg was located within the state of Florida. Yes, I knew it was IN Florida but couldn't have named which *quadrant* to win a $100 bet.

I also realized while in FL in November that I could've (should've?) flown to Miami and then driven to Naples -- but I was under the impression this was a long (maybe 4-5 hr) drive. Nope - just a 2 hour journey.

Therefore, I've posted a map of Florida showing MAJOR cities (so don't try looking for Naples but you can find Ft. Meyer) - take some time to study and memorize so you don't look dumb like I did.

PS I hate Florida.
PPS Did you know how skinny Alabama is right on the gulf coast? It's Idaho narrow and then you're in Mississippi.

Just think of all the connections

I was browsing people I know from high school's friends on MySpace (does that make sense) and found a guy that works with a boy from my HS who graduated from Wausau HS in 1997 - aka would've been in the same class as Jen Meyer and Short Jake.

I haven't talked to the boy from my HS since HS and definately he wasn't even a friend in HS so clearly I'm not going to bring up this random connection - plus this connection isn't a super relevent or insightful or interesting even to me as a lover of random connections.

However, I did think it noteworthy enough to blog about, I guess.. Also made me want to make a list of all the people I can get to via TWO different paths of networking (I'm sure you've heard my stories about this) but I'm too tired right now to embark on that task.
